We are currently in the process of building a home right now. We lived in our old house for almost 8 years, but after 2 kids, we quickly started outgrowing it. Nobody told me that kids come with a bunch of huge crap. Once they outgrew the first round of huge crap, there was more huge crap that came along. What seemed like a house full of lots of storage space, quickly changed to, “there is literally nowhere to store our crap anymore!”
It was a great first home for our little family because lots of memories were made there. Now, we are building our new home, a home where new memories will be made, a home that will be built the way we like, a home that will be a reflection of us. And that is really, really exciting.
We have been busy picking out all the finishes, appliances, flooring, fixtures, lighting, colors and pretty much everything else under the sun. Although that has been exciting, what I am really excited for are the decorations. I am always checking out the decor section of just about every store I enter.
Here I have gathered some decorating ideas that I would love in our new house. It seems as though I am drawn to a lot of light, neutral and gold pieces. I love the look of different textures, like a knitted or faux fur blanket with some geometric shapes on couch pillows. I also like dimension, so adding pictures and art to the walls that are not flat are very appealing to me, such as the all-white deer head piece. Decorative mirrors can also add extra light to a room and make it appear larger, depending on the size of mirrors you use. For a quick room update, adding some vases of different colors and shapes can really update any room
But the best decorating piece of all is a beautiful arrangement of fresh flowers. They can liven any room and add a pop of color where needed.
